Sea Foam
Now that it's cold here, many of us are wishing for a good
snow cover to keep our roses safe through the winter. So this
month's rose is one that reminds us of fluffy white snow covered
shrubs. Sea Foam, a modern white shrub is also seen as a standard
tree as well. It's trailing habit also lends itself to ground
cover uses as well. The ARS rates Sea Foam at 8.1, and although
it is not completely hardy here in Zone 4, with a little care
it can be a vigorous, well-repeating addition to the garden.
Bred in 1964 by E.W. Schwartz (White Dawn x Pinochio), it
was introduced by Conard-Pyle. It bears small creamy white
double blooms in clusters with small, leathery dark green
leaves. Generally a small 2-4 foot plant, it will send out
trailing canes much longer.
