Rose of the Month ~ March
2003
Garden Party
Because wouldn't we all like to be having a garden party
right about now? This beautiful hybrid tea rose is a garden
standout and has also been seen on the show table. Garden
Party (not to be confused with the 1999 red floribunda Garden
Party) was bred by Herbert C. Swim and introduced in 1959
by Armstrong Roses. It now boasts an ARS rating of 8.0. Although
it is classified as a white, it has been described as near-white
to pink, ivory to cream to pink and cream-pink blend. It has
exhibition form with urn-shaped buds opening to ruffled, full
blooms. The foliage is dark and the plant is bushy, growing
to around 3-4 feet in our climate. As with all hybrid teas
in Zone 4 it needs winter protection such as the Minnesota
Tip, but in summer it is a vigorous grower with a susceptibility
to powdery mildew. Check out the photo and links below and
add your input by voting in our poll.
